Sheku Bangura, a 28-year-old unemployed man, made his first court appearance on Thursday, September 5, 2024, before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. Bangura faces one count of larceny, in violation of Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the prosecution, the alleged crime occurred on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Waterloo, Western Rural District, Freetown. Bangura is accused of stealing a sum of $8,700 (USD), equivalent to Le210,540, along with Le40,000 in physical cash. The total value of the alleged stolen money amounts to Le250,540. The funds are said to belong to a man named Kabbie Sesay.
When the charge was read and explained to Bangura, he pleaded not guilty. The accused was not represented by legal counsel during the proceedings.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, the prosecuting officer, requested a short adjournment to allow for a proper conference with the witness.
Given the seriousness of the alleged offense, Magistrate Bangura denied bail for the accused and adjourned the case to September 12, 2024.
