Sierra Leone and Egypt formalized a significant partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, May 16, 2024, aimed at initiating reforms in Sierra Leone’s public service sector. The ceremony, held in Cairo, saw the respective representatives, Amara Kallon, Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs of Sierra Leone, and Prof. Dr. Saleh El Sheikh, head of the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA) in Egypt, seal the agreement in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli expressed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening ties with Sierra Leone across various sectors, pledging full support to Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs.
Amara Kallon, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, emphasized Sierra Leone’s dedication to enhancing workforce performance and efficiency.
The MoU signifies a milestone in bolstering bilateral relations, with Sierra Leone poised to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in governmental institutional restructuring. Under the agreement, Egypt will provide technical assistance to Sierra Leone in drafting new legislation pertaining to public services. Additionally, both countries will collaborate on developing training programs for personnel across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), along with knowledge exchange initiatives in the realm of technology.
Expressing gratitude for Egypt’s hospitality, Kallon highlighted the MoU’s significance in reinforcing the shared commitment to advancing African heritage. He commended Egypt’s strides in initiatives such as the creation of the New Administrative Capital, citing them as models for collaboration among African nations.
This partnership sets a precedent for African states to collaborate on initiatives aimed at enhancing governance and public service delivery.
