Egypt and Sierra Leone Explore New Avenues for Industrial and Transport Cooperation

Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, met with Ambassador Sadiq Sila of Sierra Leone on Sunday, 25 August 2024, at the New Administrative Capital in Cairo. The meeting, which included senior officials from both countries, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry and transport.

Deputy Prime Minister El-Wazir highlighted Egypt’s advancements in infrastructure, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting African nations. He emphasized the importance of enhancing partnerships across the continent, reflecting Egypt’s regional and international influence.

Ambassador Sila expressed Sierra Leone’s interest in deepening ties with Egypt, particularly in transportation and infrastructure. Discussions included potential joint initiatives, such as road and bridge construction projects in Sierra Leone, utilizing Egypt’s expertise. The two sides also explored the possibility of establishing a shipping line to boost maritime trade and examined ways to collaborate in the industrial sector, leveraging Sierra Leone’s natural resources like palm oil.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further exploring opportunities for cooperation, aiming to foster economic growth and development for both nations.
