AWOL America held its 9th Annual Achievement Awards at the Waterford Event Center in Virginia, USA. The event drew Sierra Leoneans from across the United States, all gathering to celebrate the organization’s continued dedication to uplifting communities both in Sierra Leone and the diaspora.
AWOL (All Walks of Life) is a renowned organization committed to making a positive impact in Sierra Leone by providing essential services and support to those in need. Through their various initiatives, they aim to empower individuals and contribute to the nation’s development.
During the event, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United States, Sidique Abou-Bakarr Wai, delivered a speech praising AWOL America. He referred to the awards ceremony as the “Oscars of Sierra Leone” and commended the organization for its ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Sierra Leoneans. Ambassador Wai also extended his congratulations to all the award recipients.
The ceremony recognized outstanding individuals and organizations in several categories:
- Organization of the Year: Sierra Leone Progressive Union
- DJ of the Year: DJ Moe (Maryland)
- Sierra Leone New Artist of the Year: Offgaard (Music “Odofor”)
- Alumni of the Year: Annie Walsh Memorial School (Washington Metropolitan Branch)
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Pastor Dr. Abdul Karim Sesay
- Sierra Leone US/Canada Music Video of the Year: Uncle Papayzua
- Moseray Fadika Humanitarian Award: Janise Rescues Mission
- Sierra Leone Musician/Artist of the Year: Abizzy
- Content Creator of the Year: King Tommy
- Chairman’s Award: Berous International Foundation
The event concluded with the introduction of the newly elected AWOL UK executive, marking another milestone in the organization’s growth and expanding influence.
This year’s awards reaffirm AWOL America’s mission to highlight and celebrate Sierra Leonean talent and humanitarian efforts, while also fostering unity and progress within the diaspora community.
