Freetown, Sierra Leone – Abu Bakarr Jalloh, a commercial bike rider, was remanded in custody on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, following another appearance in his ongoing trial at the Pademba Road Court No. 3. Presiding over the case, Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker is handling the matter involving one count of fraudulent conversion under Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The charges stem from an incident on September 17, 2024, at the Wilberforce parking ground in the western area of Freetown. According to court documents, Abu Bakarr Jalloh is accused of fraudulently converting to his own use a motorbike, specifically an LX Star bike with registration number AWB 367, valued at 22,800 Leones. The bike had been entrusted to him by Musa Amadu Jalloh for safekeeping.
When the charge was read in court, the accused did not enter a plea.
Detective Police Constable 15098 Sesay M.A., the prosecutor in the case, requested a brief adjournment to allow time for a formal meeting with the witness. Magistrate Tucker, citing the seriousness of the alleged offense, denied bail to the accused and ordered his remand at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned until October 24, 2024, for further proceedings.
