Betpawa Sierra Leone Cleans Lumley and Aberdeen Beaches in Major CSR Effort

As part of its ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Betpawa Sierra Leone conducted a large-scale beach cleanup at Lumley and Aberdeen on Saturday, 16th November 2024. This initiative aims to support Sierra Leone’s environmental sustainability and boost the country’s tourism sector.

Madam Winnie Boyah, a representative of Betpawa Sierra Leone, highlighted the importance of clean beaches in promoting tourism and preserving the country’s natural beauty. “The cleaning of these beaches is not only about aesthetics but also about creating a healthier environment. Dirty beaches can harm Sierra Leone’s image and discourage tourists from visiting,” she explained.

Betpawa’s cleanup campaign is in collaboration with the National Tourist Board (NTB), with the goal of improving the appeal of Lumley and Aberdeen as prime tourist destinations. Madam Boyah emphasized that clean beaches contribute to public health and create a more enjoyable environment for both locals and visitors. She also encouraged the public to take collective responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the beaches.

Since its launch in Sierra Leone in March 2024, Betpawa has expanded its reach across 18 African countries and continues to invest in community development projects in Sierra Leone. The company remains dedicated to positively impacting the lives of Sierra Leoneans through initiatives like these.

Mr. Kai Bockarie Saquee, the Public Relations Officer of the National Tourist Board (NTB), expressed his appreciation for Betpawa’s initiative. “We applaud Betpawa for their timely intervention in addressing waste management challenges and for supporting the development of sustainable tourism in Sierra Leone,” he stated. Mr. Saquee also pointed out that poor waste management remains a significant issue along riverine areas, with both residents and companies contributing to the pollution of beaches and rivers.

In response, the NTB has launched outreach programs to raise awareness about the environmental and health risks of improper waste disposal. Mr. Saquee called on other organizations to follow Betpawa’s lead and join the fight for a cleaner, more sustainable Sierra Leone.

This cleanup effort marks an important step in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and sustainability in Sierra Leone. Betpawa Sierra Leone’s contribution to preserving the country’s natural resources is a model for other businesses to follow in support of Sierra Leone’s tourism and environmental goals.
