Freetown, Sierra Leone – Julian Jusu, a 21-year-old student, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Friday, 15th November 2024, facing charges of theft and malicious damage. Jusu has been accused of stealing cables valued at Le 25,350, the property of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawalie.
The charges state that on Sunday, 3rd November 2024, at Attaya Base, Blue House, IMATT, in the Western Area of Freetown, Jusu stole nine rolls of 4 MM.AC cables and twelve rolls of 2.5 M.M cables. The cables, which were in the custody of Hassan Turay, belonged to the Attorney General’s office.
In addition to theft, Jusu is also accused of maliciously damaging the same cables. According to the indictment, the value of the stolen and damaged cables totals Le 25,350.
Upon hearing the charges, Jusu pleaded not guilty to the allegations. The prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K.K., requested a short adjournment due to the absence of a key witness.
Magistrate Bangura denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded in the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to 18th November 2024 for further proceedings.
