Africell Partners with UNDP to Support Nationwide Awareness Campaign against SGBV

Africell Sierra Leone, a leading mobile communications and technology company, has on Wednesday November 27, 2024 announced a groundbreaking partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support a nationwide awareness campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The initiative, aligned with the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, runs from November 25 to December 10, 2024.

Under the partnership, Africell will disseminate a series of impactful communication messages, developed by UNDP, to its extensive subscriber base. These messages aim to raise awareness about SGBV, its detrimental effects and to encourage individual and collective action to prevent violence. This collaboration is expected to amplify critical messages and drive positive change throughout Sierra Leone.

The campaign is designed to resonate with a diverse audience, spanning both urban and rural communities. It emphasizes solidarity with survivors of SGBV and promotes community support across all regions of the country.

“We are pleased to partner with Africell Sierra Leone in this critical effort to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence,” said Fredrick Ampiah, UNDP Resident Representative. “Through this collaboration, we can effectively communicate the importance of addressing GBV to a broad audience, leveraging Africell’s vast

subscriber base to amplify our messages and empower communities to take action.”

The 16 Days of Activism is a globally recognized campaign that seeks to raise awareness about gender-based violence while advocating for the rights of women and girls. Through their joint efforts, UNDP and Africell Sierra Leone aim to engage the nation in a meaningful conversation about ending GBV, while providing survivors with essential information on available resources.
