Sierra Leone Attracts 1,651 Tourists Amidst New Strategic Tourism Initiatives

In a significant development for the tourism sector, Minister of Tourism and Culture Madam Nabella Tunis has announced that the Bio Administration has successfully drafted a comprehensive 10-year Tourism Strategic Master Plan. This initiative, which has received widespread acclaim from the private sector and stakeholders, is seen as a vital tool for revitalizing Sierra Leone’s tourism industry.

Minister Tunis reported that a remarkable 1,651 tourists visited Sierra Leone recently, expressing their delight in the country’s stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, and the warm hospitality experienced throughout their stay. This announcement was made during the International Tourist Board event held in Berlin, Germany, where private sector partners contributed valuable insights on the promising growth of Sierra Leone’s tourism.

While acknowledging concerns raised by the private sector regarding investment security and land availability, Tunis emphasized that Sierra Leone is recognized not only for its religious tolerance but also as a safe haven for investment in Africa. She highlighted the importance of these factors in attracting tourists and investors alike.

At the prestigious FUTUR 2024 International Tourism event, Sierra Leone showcased its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Delegates from over 150 countries praised the country’s tourism direction, recognizing its potential for attracting diverse forms of tourism. Additionally, Sierra Leone secured membership in the African Travel and Tourism Association (ATTA), enhancing its presence in regional tourism discussions.

Permanent Secretary Kwane Yankon commended the country’s participation in international tourism forums, calling it a remarkable success that has yielded promising outcomes across various facets of Sierra Leone’s tourism landscape. He expressed optimism about the future of tourism in Sierra Leone, noting that ongoing discussions with the United Nations World Tourism Organization will pave the way for further prosperity in the sector.
