Three Accused Granted Bail in Larceny Case

On Monday, December 9, 2024, Mamoud Kamara, Alie Barrie, and Amara Sesay appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1 to face three charges related to conspiracy and larceny.

The accused are charged with two counts: conspiracy to commit a crime contrary to law and larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to the charge sheet, on July 3, 2024, in Komrabai Village, Lokomasama, Port Loko District, the three men allegedly conspired to commit larceny.

The charges further state that the accused stole items valued at three billion, nine hundred seventy-three million, one hundred seventy thousand Leones (Le 3,973,170,000). The stolen property included a B15 3606 CDMA 3/2 site, six Aviat Eclipse IGBps microwave links, a DC rectifier cabinet (48v, 200A), twelve deep-cycle VLAR Gel batteries, and other assorted items belonging to the Sierra Leone Telecommunications Company.

When the charges were read to the accused, they did not enter a plea.

The defense counsel, E.E. Farmah Esq., renewed and adopted a previous bail application on behalf of the accused. After considering the submissions, Magistrate Kekura granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of five hundred thousand Leones (Le 500,000) with two sureties. The sureties must be residents of Freetown and must provide recent NCRA identity cards showing their addresses in Freetown. The bail will be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The case was adjourned to December 17, 2024, for further proceedings.
