Freetown, Sierra Leone – AbdulRahman Kamara, alias “Sixer,” a local footballer, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, to answer to four serious charges related to the unlawful possession and dealing of prohibited drugs.
Kamara is accused of collecting a prohibited drug without lawful authority, possession of prohibited drugs, dealing in prohibited drugs, and selling prohibited drugs, all in violation of the National Drug Control Act 2008. The alleged offenses took place on December 26, 2024, at No. 15 Humphray Lane, Cline Town, in Freetown.
According to the charge sheet, Kamara was found in possession of 96 wraps of kush, a substance suspected to be a prohibited drug, on the date in question. In addition to possession, he is also accused of dealing and selling the substance without lawful authority.
When the charges were read to the accused, he did not enter a plea. The state prosecutor, Sergeant 3379 Ballay, called her first witness, Deputy Sergeant 9859 Sahr Sundu Koroma, who testified that he had received a file from the Harbour Police Station on February 14, 2025. The file contained documents related to the forensic examination of the 96 wraps of suspected kush. Sergeant Koroma stated that he and his colleague had charged Kamara with unlawful possession after questioning him.
The defense counsel applied for bail, arguing that Kamara is a student and not a flight risk. The lawyer also assured the court that Kamara would attend all adjournments and would not interfere with witnesses. The defense referenced the Bail Regulation of 2018 and the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965 in support of their application.
However, Magistrate Bangura denied bail, citing the severity of the charges. Kamara was remanded to the male correctional center in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to March 6, 2025, for further proceedings.
