Sierra Leone’s Anti-Drug Chief Linked to Europe’s Most Wanted Drug Lord

By Kandeh Sesay

A shocking revelation has surfaced involving Sierra Leone’s Head of the Drug Enforcement Agency, Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, who was spotted at a birthday party alongside Europe’s most wanted drug lord, Dutch national Leijdekkers. The presence of Kaikai—a former Chief Immigration Officer now leading the country’s anti-drug fight—has sparked widespread concern and speculation about his alleged ties to international drug cartels.

Kaikai, who previously faced scrutiny in Parliament over suspicious vehicles he claimed were “gifts from a friend,” now finds himself at the center of a growing scandal. The video evidence of his association with Leijdekkers has fueled discussions about possible complicity in drug-related activities at the highest levels of government.

Leijdekkers, who faces a 47-year sentence in the European Union for drug trafficking, appears to enjoy protection in Sierra Leone. Sources allege that he has even married President Julius Maada Bio’s daughter, raising questions about whether recent sackings of top government officials were part of a broader cover-up.

Kaikai, who once escaped accountability under the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) led by Francis Ben Kaifala, has long been rumored to have close ties with influential figures in both politics and organized crime. Critics argue that his ability to walk free despite corruption allegations suggests high-level protection within the Bio administration.

The latest revelations reinforce suspicions that top officials within the government may be complicit in drug-related dealings. With international attention now on Sierra Leone’s law enforcement leadership, the pressing question remains: Is the country’s anti-drug agency truly fighting narcotics, or is it shielding those at the heart of the trade?

As investigations continue, more names are expected to emerge, potentially exposing deeper links between state officials and international drug operations.
