Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo Capacitates Staff

In order to capacitate their staff in improving service delivery, the Embassy of the Republic of Sierra Leone in Cairo on Sunday 27th June 2021 at the Conference Room of the Embassy has concluded a one-day in house training for its staff.

The training was part of the Embassy’s deliverable which is geared towards developing the human resources capacity of its staff in the Embassy.

Delivering the keynote address, the out-going Ambassador to Cairo, the Arab republic of Egypt, His Excellency Morie Fofana underscored the importance of capacity building in improving service delivery, adding that knowledge building is key in enhancing performance. He encouraged the staff to take the training seriously. Ambassador Morie Fofana added that the training is coming at the right time and it will develop the skills of the staff significantly and also improving the overall output of the Embassy.

He furthered maintained that one of the best ways to ensure effectiveness in the workplace is to organize in-house training. He said that technology is key in the field of work, noting that the training is part of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s dream to improve on the human capital development in every sector. 

Speaking on the importance of the training, the lead facilitator, Mr. Samuel Alie Kargbo (Counsellor/ Head of Chancery) informed the staff that the training focuses on key deliverables and covers key topics relating to the day-to-day operations of staff.

Dilating on the various topics, Mr. Kargbo informed the staff that the training covered key thematic areas surrounding organizational structure of the mission and reporting lines. He said that the  training covers key issues such as the roles of different staff, introduction to productivity in (job and time management), staff performance appraisals, (importance and steps in conducting performance reviews), Financial Procedures and general administrative procedures ( types of leave, staff discipline and staff attendance). 

The topics were presented by the various facilitators selected form the management staff and training experts (Sierra Leonean –Egyptian).

Each presentation was followed by interactive Question and Answer Sessions.

In his closing statement, Ambassador Fofana reiterated that the training is part of performance management, adding that the training focuses in ensuring effective service delivery. He observed that many institutions have failed because their staff don’t know what to do but, he affirmed that with effective training, the Embassy will achieve its goals through improved staff performance.

While giving the vote of thanks, Secretary to the Ambassador, Madam Soha expressed her appreciation on behalf of the entire staff. She assured the organizers that the staff will put into practice what they have learnt. She specifically thanked the Ambassador for the forthright thinking and inspirational leadership. She also thanked the Head of Chancery and facilitators for a job well done. In concluding her vote of thanks, she requested for more training in future in key areas of the operations of the Embassy.
