New Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal Assures DVC’s

The Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal,Professor Andrew has on Tuesday 6th July,2021 met the Committee of Deans of Njala University and assured them of his Administration’s fullest support to improve on the efficiency of their work.

The meeting is the first to be held by the Acting Vice-Chancellor since he took up office on the 1st July,2021.He reiterated his resolve to work with the Deputy Vice-Chancellors of the campuses to strengthen the supervision of Deans and Heads of Department leading to the timely production of results and the strict adherence to the University Academic Calendar.

Professor Baimba told the Committee members that he had once occupied the position of DVC and as such he is aware of the challenges confronting such a position.

“I will respect the structure of the University and would thereby not entertain Deans and HOD’s to come directly to me without first exhausting the internal channels available to them’’
Professor Baimba recounted.

He reiterated his speech at the handing over ceremony that he does not have an agenda of his own but he was at Njala to work together with the staff to make Njala University great again.

The veteran Professor concluded his welcome Address by pointing out that his main tasks as interim Head of the University is to superintend the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor and Principal and also fully follow-up on the functional and management review currently ongoing in all higher Learning institutions in the country including Njala University.

He entreated the DVC’s and the Deans to fully align the activities of the University henceforth with the vision of the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education.

Members of the Committee thanked the Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal and expressed their support to his Administration but highlighted issues around not having the necessary tools to make their work effective and also requested for the increasing use of technology to make the production of results timely and more efficient.

The meeting later discussed the restructuring process of the University and this led to the constitution of a committee with a very clear TOR to spearhead the process, timely publication of results, status of staff recruitments etc.

Professor Baimba, one-time Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bo and Njala campuses and a strategic member of the Curriculum, Policy Review and Scoring Committees of Njala University was recalled by the Government of Sierra Leone in June to serve as caretaker Principal replacing Professor Mallam O. who has held the forth for fourteen (14) months as caretaker Vice-Chancellor and Principal.
