Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone Hu Zhangliang has on Thursday 22nd July, 2021, awarded scholarships to one hundred and forty seven Sierra Leonean students (147).
The ceremony took place a week before the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone Chinese Economic and commercial office on OAU village, Hill Station in Freetown.
The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone spearheaded the 2021 Award Ceremony of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship/Grant.
H.E. Chinese Ambassador Hu Zhangliang, Hon. Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Hon. Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, together with chairpersons of Sierra Leone – China friendship organizations as well as members from the fourth estate graced the event.
Ambassador Hu congratulated the awarded students, encouraged them to continue working hard and wished them success at their respective school. He also reaffirmed China’s staunch support to the Tertiary Education and the Free Quality Education initiated by H.E. President Julius Maada Bio.
This year, he added 22 university students were recommended by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and various tertiary institutions were also awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, while 125 needy students from different primary and secondary schools were selected for the Chinese Ambassador Grant. All the students received the scholarship or grant radiantly, and promised to be grateful, assiduous and contribute to the development of Sierra Leone.
