Ambassador Sesay calls on Ajman Chamber, solicits educational support for Sierra Leone

Ajman, United Arab Emirates, Tuesday 17 August 2021 – Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, UAE, has called at the leadership of the Ajman Chamber to solicit support for Sierra Leone’s educational sector.

Ajman Chamber is a UAE-based entity which among other things, seeks to enhance close cooperation frameworks with institutions and international bodies, as well as exchange experiences in relation to economic, technical and administrative matters.

At the meeting in Ajman, northern part of the UAE, Ambassador Rashid Sesay discussed the recent Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in the field of education and how that could further accelerate cooperation in the sector for the benefit of the two countries.

He noted education was the flagship program of Sierra Leone’s New Direction Government, adding that the Government was providing free quality education to all children which had led to increased access and enrollment in schools as well as quality output.

He added despite the tremendous efforts, there were still challenges for which he was meeting to solicit support and discuss possible areas of collaboration. On higher education, Ambassador Sesay mentioned his country was having high-performing students who would be interested in scholarship opportunities and exchange programs.

He also stated that Sierra Leone was open for business and would welcome investment in areas of mining, agriculture, fisheries and tourism. He said the untapped potentials in Sierra Leone were enormous and emphasized Government’s readiness to welcome investors.

Vice Chairman of the Ajman Chamber, Hamad Rashid Al Nuaimi, said it was a positive move that Sierra Leone was putting education at the center of its development priorities. He spoke of the benefits education would bring to a nation, while assuring that they were willing to share experience to help the development of education in Sierra Leone. He said that they would facilitate visits for Ambassador Sesay to some of the Universities in the Emirate of Ajman to explore collaborative areas with Universities in Sierra Leone.

He also reiterated that with more collaboration, there were huge opportunities from which the two countries could benefit, particularly in terms of trade and technical cooperation. He assured of their determination to explore more opportunities to boost the trade level between the two countries in the years to come.
