Geneva, Switzerland, Friday 3 September 2021- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Professor David John Francis has departed Switzerland this morning for Sierra Leone after concluding a weeklong bilateral engagement and delivered the opening address at the 7th Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty in Geneva.
The Foreign Minister is accompanied by his Director-General, Mr Prince Cole and Director follow-up, Mr Abraham John.
It could be recalled that between 30 August and 2 September this year the Honourable Foreign Minister, Professor David John Francis held bilateral meetings in Geneva with the Foreign Minister of Hungary, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Switzerland, and the heads (Directors-General and Executive Directors) of the following Intergovernmental Organisations: the United Nations Office in Geneva, United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, World Trade Organisation, World Health Organisation, World Intellectual Property Organisation, and Global Fund.
Professor Francis also participated in the Seventh Conference of States Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty in Geneva as a keynote speaker.
Among the issues of national interest, the Minister promoted included support for the education of Sierra Leoneans by securing scholarships, intellectual property rights, water management, diplomatic staff exchange, agriculture, trade, and support for Sierra Leone healthcare system and interventions in HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, among others.
The visit to Geneva is widely regarded as a success.
