SLRSA EMPOWERS THE DEAF

As part of efforts to broaden the road safety campaign, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority on Saturday 4th September, 2021 organized a one day training session for the deaf and hard of hearing at the Free Pentecostal Primary School, Kailahun.

Over 80 participants took part in the training at Kailahun with theme: Empowering the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to reduce Road Traffic Crashes.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of the SLRSA, Transport Manager, Mr. Daniel C. Kaitibi disclosed the plans of the Executive Director in ensuring that no one is left out in the road education. He disclosed the authority was determined to train not only the deaf but also people with other disabilities.

The Transport Manager encouraged the participants to treat the training with all seriousness and added other parts have also benefitted from similar training.

The president of the Sierra Leone National Association of the Deaf, Alhaji Mohamed Rahman expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Director for his support to the deaf over the years. He disclosed that, all the Executive Director’s policies relating to Road Safety are disable friendly and appeals to disable community to pray for him to sustain this laudable initiative.

The training was centered on the language of the Road (Road signs and markings) and Road Safety enforcement. Daniel c. Kaitibi and Augustine K. Lansana served as facilitators.

The Kailahun District is the sixth District to benefit from such training, under the dynamic and astute leadership of SLRSA Executive Director. Ibrahim Sannoh.

Ibrahim Sanneh is well determined and ready to provide more support to the deaf to organize similar training in other parts of the county.
