The Acting Director of the National Commission for Democracy, Madam Mariama Suma on the day marking International Day of Democracy has called for political tolerance across various political parties in the country.
She also called for national unity and social cohesion by given due consideration to different ethnicity and tribes.
Madam Suma made this statement on the usual press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
She said Sierra Leone has come a long way in the consolidation of democracy, adding that there isstill enoughgrounds to cover on the foundation of democracy, nationalism and patriotism.
“We must brace up to the reality that we have a common destiny in the contest of Sierra Leone that is anchored on the ideals of our public seal,” madam Suma said, adding that it is therefore incumbent on all to observe the day with a reminder that we have a responsibility to stand against corruption, violence, intolerance, injustice, coercion and sabotage.
The Public Relation Officer of NCD, Reverend Gibril Kargbo said that this can only be actualized through aneffective parliament and independent judiciary.He called on all to embrace positive change for national cohesion and development.
