The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie has once again embarked on field visits to ascertain the status of various State Lands and facilities in the Colony (Western Area Urban).
Accompanied by the Director of Surveys and Lands, Mr. Tamba Dauda and other senior staff of the ministry, the Minister, on Thursday September 23 2021 toured the Kissy Dockyard and Allen Town Communities to get first hand information on the status of state properties.
In the Kissy Dockyard Community, the Minister saw sites of abandoned factories and hospitals among others that are now being occupied by squatters and land grabbers.
In Allen Town, the Minister was shown vast portion of State Land that is being mapped and secured by the Ministry.
Dr. Turad also received complaints of certain individuals constructing houses on State Land without obtaining the relevant documentations including offer letters, signed site plans and construction permits.
The Minister was very pleased by the work being done to secure State Lands in the Allen Town Community by staff of the Ministry led by the Assitant Director of Lands, Yaryah Kamarakeh.
At the Kissy Dockyard Community, Dr. Senesie instructed the staff in the Lands and Surveys Directorate to invite all those laying claims to land and other properties situate on State Lands to report to the Ministry with such evidence not later than Tuesday September 28 for verification and further actions.
As part of the Minister’s community engagement strategy, he took time off to address the community people at the various locations to keep them well informed about the purpose of the visits.
He was keen to let the community people understand how squatters and land grabbers are depriving them of basic necessities in the communities including hospitals, schools, community centers and cemeteries, as a result of illegal occupancy of State Lands and properties that should be used for such purposes.
He invited community members to collaborate and cooperate with the government to ensure all illegally occupied state properties are retrieved and returned to the government.
