The Sierra Leone Consul General to Spain, Soraya Mustapha Khallow has on Sunday 28th November 2021 paid a courtesy call to the Sierra Leone delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), led by the Sierra Leone Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu in Madrid.
During a brief meeting at Hotel Axor Feria in Spain, the Consul General explained to the Sierra Leone delegation, that she was highly engaged in philanthropic and humanitarian activities for Sierra Leoneans living in that country. “I always ensure that Sierra Leoneans are protected and given the necessary support when needed, especially during this pandemic” she reassured.
The Consul General used the opportunity to inform the delegation that she hailed from Potoru in Pujehun District, but she grew up in Las Palmas in Spain and expressed her desire to support the development of Sierra Leone by promoting the good image of the country abroad. The Consul also told the delegation that she was always engaging investors and other authorities to harness support for Sierra Leone, and to also improve on bilateral relationships between both countries.
She recalled that several years ago, some Sierra Leoneans used to spend their honeymoon in Las Palmas at a time when there were direct flights between both countries.
The Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Paran Umar Tarawally expressed appreciation to her for her hospitality and encouraged her to continue the good work she was doing to widen bilateral cooperation and to attract and promote foreign direct investment for the development of Sierra Leone.
Leader of Government Busines, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma also asked her to maintain diplomatic support and cooperation with a view to improve on the strong bilateral relations between both countries. “Please always accord diplomatic service to Sierra Leoneans”, he advised, and went on to reassure the Consul General of Parliament’s support. He recognized and commended her effort and commitment towards the development of Sierra Leone.
The Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Dr Abass Chernor Bundu whilst responding said a consul should always accord consular services to Sierra Leoneans as and when necessary and encouraged her to continue to do her job with due diligence.
The Speaker also said that the Consul should always extend consular services to a Sierra Leoneans regardless of his or her belief or opinion. Considering that she was resident in Las Palmas, he encouraged the Consul to try and select suitable persons in the Capital of Madrid to help her with the execution of her consular duties.
The Speaker also thanked her for providing hospitality to Sierra Leoneans that are residing in Spain.
