Thousands of successful candidates in the 2021 WASSCE Examination will have to wait until October 2022 to enter public colleges and universities around the country, as the higher institutions will commence a fresh academic year in January 2022.
Observers say the Basic and Secondary Education Minister Dr. David Moina Senghel has succeeded in many other changes especially in the BECE formulation, but it is left with the WASSCE for adjustment to the normal college curriculum. One school of thought believes that the Minister is analyzing the situation to ascertain which mechanisms are appropriate to be implemented. Both private and public Arabic and English schools around are expected to close on Thursday, December 12th respectfully, and are scheduled to reopen on January 5th, 2021. Most parents and guardians are worried about what will become of their school-going children over the long duration of waiting to gain admission into college or university.
