13 Political Parties Decline to Participate

By Zainab Turay

Out of seventeen registered political parties in the country, only four have filled in candidates to participate in the upcoming Bye-Elections in Port Loko and Kailahun districts, respectively.

With an expected voters’ turnout of over fifty thousand, only four political parties have filled in their candidature to contest in the March 26th2022 Bye-Elections, in both Port Loko and Kailahun districts.

In the Port Loko District, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Sobeh has nominated Madam IsatuKamara, the National Grand Coalition (NGC) has also nominated Mohamed Ezra Bangua, the main opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC) has nominated Issa O. Koroma and the Sierra Leone Peoples party (SLPP) has nominated Mr.Abdulai K. Kamara for Kailahun District.

Both the ruling SLPP party and the main opposition APC party have filled in Female candidates to contest in the bye- election in Port Loko District. The two female candidates are: Madam Amie Momoh of the all People’s Congress Party (APC) and Madam Hawa. R. Saffa for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

Observers say both bye-elections will determine the popularity of the two main political parties.

However, others have argued that the NGC Party will definitely defeat the candidates of both the APC and the SLPP parties.

The PDP party which has not been seen in similar engagements, observers say could equally not be underestimated.
