Africell To Build Biggest Data Centre In Salone

Africell, which has already invested in fiber optic infrastructure, will be building the biggest data centre in Sierra Leone to cater for and host hundreds of servers in a safe and secured environment.
This was disclosed by Shadi Gerjawi, Africell’s Managing Director, who added that, “these expansions will also mean digital financial inclusivity. Perpetually, wherever a new coverage concentric circle is drawn, members of the public workforce and the public can readily access afrimoney. With afrimoney, the staff stationed in Kailahun does not have to travel to Freetown to provide family support or recharge their Africell number; they can seamlessly transfer money to another Africell line wherever and whenever.
Shadi Gerjawi revealed that, “The Government of Sierra Leone and Development Partners can eliminate fraud and ghost beneficiaries among the service delivery infrastructure by utilizing the afrimoney to pay their workforce or beneficiaries”.
The Africell Managing Director said these possibilities “are all geared towards ensuring that as a sector leader, we continue to lead with seamless transformation, prompt delivery, and unsegregated access to our services through universal coverage.”
He noted that his company had always taken their Corporate Social Responsibility seriously. “That is why we were amongst the first respondents to provide the much-needed support when an unfortunate disaster occurs such as the November [2021] fire at the PMB Junction, Wellington, where we provided food and medical supplies to the victims that were admitted at the Connaught Hospital in Freetown.”
Africell, Shadi Gerjawi stated, should be seen as a strategic development partner. “A partner that has provided the requisite tools which the Ministry of Health and Sanitation had utilized and will continue to,” he noted.
The Africell Managing Director made these comments last Friday, at the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Communications, during the launching of the National Health Summit and Recognition Award slated to take place at the Bintumani Conference Centre in Freetown from 7 to 9 April this year.
