Medical Store, New England Ville, Freetown, 16 August, 2022- To facilitate the operations of Family Support Units(FSU), the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has donated two (2) Prado Land cruiser jeep to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
Receiving the vehicles, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu recalled that in January this year, he was part of the police team that graces the ceremony of receiving 17 motorbikes from UNICEF at the same venue.
FSU the Police Chief said has been thriving on the goodwill of donor partners like UNICEF and that it establishment is one good thing that ever happens to Sierra Leone.
“UNICEF has been very consistent in providing help to the SLP” said IGP Sellu
He continued that in recent times, the public have seen the campaigning of the Hands off our Girls that was launched by Her Excellency, the First Lady Madam Fatima Bio which he said heightened the awareness on issues affecting women and girls and subsequently have laws been enacted with punitive measures that now sees offenders spending long time in jail.
He added that before the advent of the FSU, it never happen, noting that today, there is huge number of investigations, huge number of prosecutions and huge conviction.
He expressed thanks and appreciation to UNICEF and promised to inform the Internal Affairs Minister and His Excellency President Bio about the gesture.
He assured that the vehicles would be use for it intended purpose.
In his contribution, the Country Director for UNICEF, Dr Suleiman Braimoh also recalled that few months ago, they donated 17 motorbikes to the SLP to help facilitate FSU operations.
He disclosed that during the handing over of those motorbikes, processes were ongoing for more support to the FSU with vehicles.
The day he said, therefore mark the handing over of the vehicles.
Present at the ceremony were head of FSU Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Fatmata Daboh, UNICEF program facilitator Nasal Kamara and Some line managers.
