A 17-year-old Noah Sheriff has given a vivid account of how he became blind at the tender age of ten when preparing to sit for the National Primary School Examination in Gandorhun village, Njaluahun chiefdom in the Kailahun district.
According to Noah, it all started when he was in class 6 (six) and has done all that was required to write for the National Primary School Examination when he felt itches around his eyes.
“The itching became serious and I was later taken to the hospital by my late father. Several tests prove that nothing was wrong with my eyes and we returned home. Since then, I have never been able to see again,” cried Noah.
Noah Sheriff narrated his ordeal to AIM NETWORK NEWS. The youngster later moved to the school for the blind in Kenema and then to the Milton Margai School for the blind in Freetown due to the Covid-19 restrictions which forced the school to close down.
Noah Sheriff is poised to enter Junior Secondary School Education soon but that dream is about to be shattered for obvious reasons. The teenager requires learning materials ranging from uniforms, footwear, books, bags, etc including braille to compete with his counterparts with good vision. Noah says he is optimistic about becoming a lawyer one day but that ambition remains far-fetched as it stands.
Noah Sheriff lost his father in 2017 and is the only child of his mother. Noah is reported to have been abandoned by his relatives all these years and still lives with the stigma. He is pleading with people to save his mother and blind uncle who are at present hard-pressed and forced into a tight spot in despair.
Anthony Vandi Sawai Kallon is the uncle of the 17 yrs old victim. Anthony himself a blind has clearly stated that he can no longer sustain support to his nephew because he just cannot afford it through street begging. He, therefore, calls on Philanthropists, Humanitarian Organisations, Well Wishers, and Sympathisers to step in if they can at this life-defining moment to save whatever is left of his nephew’s education.
