Chinese Embassy Charge’ D’affaires held talks with IGP on capacity building for the SLP

Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown Tuesday 11 October 2022- Charge’ D’affaires of the Chinese Embassy who doubles as the Acting Ambassador, Li Xiaoyong has visited and held talks with the Inspector General (IG) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu for capacity building for the SLP.

Charge’D’affaires, Li Xiaoyong explained that the Police have a huge task in providing peace and security especially now that the 2023 elections are closer.
His Embassy, he said has closely monitored support coming from other partners and his visit was therefore to reaffirm the Embassy’s support to the SLP and see where they can also come in to help.
“We know you have some constraints, so as Embassy we would come in to give support where we can” said Li Xiaoyong concluding that they look forward for a better relationship.

In his response, the Chief Executive Officer of the SLP, Mr William Fayia Sellu, stated that China and Sierra Leone have a long-standing relationship.
He outlined some infrastructural developments done by the former for the later.
China-Sierra Leone relationship, he said is built on a win-win corporation, stating that the door of the police is open and would willingly accept any help from their Chinese friends.
He also asked the Chinese Charge’ D’affaires to made know to the police of any challenge that requires their assistance.
