Only ECSL Has the Mandate to Ban Political Party… Deputy Information Minister Explains

The Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Solomon Jamiru Esq has responded to questions at the usual press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication that nobody has the power to ban political party from contesting in any national elections except the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone. 

Solomon Jamiru Esq made this disclosure on the 16th of February 2023, by clarifying that when a political party is in conflict with the law, it is the sole prerogative of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone to decide whether to ban or hold a referendum and not the substantive government. He said President Bio is a respecter of the rule of law and equally guarantees all registered political parties with the Political Parties Registration Commission all rights and privileges entail in the laws of Sierra Leone to democratically participate in a free and fair elections without humiliation from any other persons.

He said President Bio’s government always ensures that there is peace in all campaigns to secure the lives and properties of citizens and even non-citizens as long as they reside within the jurisdiction of Sierra Leone.
