Continuing her water and sanitation drive project in Barracks across the country, the President of Police Wives Association Madam Maltida Doris Sellu and her husband the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu on Saturday 4th March 2023, commissioned a new Solar Powered Borehole in Magburaka Barracks.
In his keynote address, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu stated that one of their concerns now is addressing the welfare of people, disclosing that there are over 18000 whose welfare they are looking after.
“We cannot satisfy them all but one intervention would satisfy tens or hundreds of people that was why I became interested in this Boreholes project” he said.
He commended the team spirit of the association and encourage them to continue.
He also disclosed that his Executive Management Board (EMB) has agreed on a monthly contribution to the association and has commenced talks with the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), for members of the association to benefit from the Amunafa loan scheme.
He called on them to embark on fund raising activities to generate more revenue for their projects.
He encouraged them to be united and steadfast, “the more you come together, the stronger you become” said the Police Chief.
In her contribution, Madam Maltida Doris Sellu, stated that the project was born out of passion to save girls living in barracks across the country from dropping out of school and teenage pregnancy.
According to Madam Sellu, when she took over as President of the association, she embarked on a nationwide tour of all police barracks to have first-hand information on their challenges.
“I discovered that in all the barracks, there is a high rate of dropouts and teenage pregnancies which was attributed to challenges linked with water” said Madam Sellu noting that it came out clearly that the felt need of residents in those barracks is water and sanitation.
She therefore urged residents, especially Police wives to take ownership of the project.
Paramount Chief (PC), of Kholifa Rowala Chiefdom, Tonkolili District, Alhaji Masakama Kanamka 111, pledges full support.
Regional Commander for North East, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sahr Senesie also commended the leadership demonstrated by Mr and Mrs Sellu, stating that it was second to none.
