As part of its efforts to save lives… MAFFKAM Medicare Embarks on HIV/AIDS Sensitization

The Program Manager for the UK based Maffkam Medicare Charity Organization located at No. 40 Lower Allen Town in the East District of the Western Area, in an exclusive interview with this medium has applauded the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization Madam Mary Kamara, a senior medical personal in the UK, for supporting the vulnerable people in the country. 

Mr Yusuf S. Mansaray added that the Maffkam Medicare Charity Organization was established in 2019 and since its establishment it has contributed immensely in the reduction of HIV/AIDS in the country.

Mr. Mansaray said, it no secret that the number of people infected by the virus over the years especially women have risen with the Western Urban taking the lead. He said despite the commitment of the HIV/AIDS Secretariat and the establishment of Counselling Services in major hospitals, their investigation shows that most people that are infected with the virus have neglected the care by refusing to show up for medication in referral hospitals. He said since 2019, his organization has embarked on community awareness raising but they have realized that it is not enough to reduce the rate of the spread of the virus, adding that, most people infected with the virus but refused to take their medication are responsible for the spread of the virus.  

He said sooner, they will be Visiting Educational Institutions, the Security Sector, Public Markets and Ataya outlets to sensitize young people on the virus. He said while the CEO in London is keen to see a massive reduction of HIV/AIDS infection, their volunteers will be equipped with the necessary logistics for the awareness exercise. He said their focus will be on poorer communities whose residents could easily be tempted to have sex to better their socio-economic well-being. He said his organization provides healing services for infected people of all ages and empowers vulnerable citizens in communities. He said Hygiene and Sanitation, and Gender Based Violence is also included in their flagship programme. He said hygiene and sanitation when properly addressed will contribute to the reduction of the many infectious diseases suffered by Sierra Leoneans. He said their engagements with local heads of communities has been very cooperative.

He said the organization has financially supported medical treatment for 145 Sierra Leoneans, set up a poultry farm at Laminaya Village in Lungi, Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom in the Port Loko District and hopes to extend it to other Chiefdoms. He said they have also supported 15 female football teams. He called on other humanitarian organizations to join in the fight against poverty and the reduction of infectious disease which may lead to deaths. He praised Madam Mary Kamara and team in London for their patriotic gesture at this time of need and called on others in the diaspora and at home to be supportive to the cause and at least to save humanity.

 Main while, a locally based Non-Governmental Organization the Global Youth Action Network Director, Mr. Ahmed Jalloh says his organisation will soon award Madam Mary Kamara for her meritorious services to mankind.
