The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has imposed a temporary ban on the movement of cattle from Liberia to Sierra Leone.
Recently, 36 cows were found dead in the Foyan Mendekoma highway in the Lofa county bordering Sierra Leone and Liberia.
According to a public notice that was issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication, following confirmed reports from Liberia’s Agricultural Ministry through its Field Office in Lofa country, a temporary ban of camels, goals, sheep and cows along the border line of both countries has been imposed for preventive reasons, prohibit the entrance, and sales of meat products from Liberia, restricts the movement of cattle, goats, sheep from Kailahun, Pujehun and Kenema to other districts in Sierra Leone. The Ministry and partner have set up a surveillance team in the areas mentioned to ensure the effectiveness of the release.
It could be recalled that the Ebola Epidemic which affected Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone were associated by experts as caused by animals and it is feared in both countries that while the cause of death is still to be determined, it is timely to adopt the necessary measures before a possible spread.
