Abu Khola Awards Scholarships to the Less Privileged

During the price giving day on Saturday 20th November 202, organized at the School Hall, the management of Abu Khola International School has awarded scholarships to the less privileged pupils that are attending the school.

Speaking at the well-attended ceremony, the Principal, Mr Ibrahim SorieKamara commended the proprietor, his family and the Board Members for their relentless efforts in supporting the school. He said the celebration is to showcase their commitment, stating that the school was established in 2003 by Abdul Bangura in honour of his late father who was trading on kola nut to make ends meet.

“The Proprietor and his family decided to name the School Abu Khola, in remembrance of their late father, Pa. Abu, who bought this piece of land we are enjoying today. The School has been providing scholarships to poor pupils whose parents cannot afford to pay the school fess, the school is also providing food every Wednesday and Friday for the pupils, this is to encourage our pupils to stay focus,’’ he narrated, adding that the school has been doing well in public examination.

Mr. Kamara admonished the pupils to dissociating themselves from nefarious practices which he said have the tendency to make them non-productive in future in terms of performing well in other exams that are strictly monitored.

In his keynote address, Mohamed Osman Bangura who doubles as CEO of Lifeguard Children’s Foundation Sierra Leone said the occasion is to celebrate academic excellent. He applauded the school Management for giving the school a new face. He said the school has been experiencing difficulties to grow, but with thegrowth in number of pupils over the years the school is now enjoying infrastructural transformation with experience teachers.

He went on to say that the celebration is to urge parent to take good care of their children. 

 “I want us to celebrate this occasion with the theme “Striving for Excellence”, this is because, all of us here are working for excellence in our lives.Let me draw the attention of you the parents, you have a good role to play for the positive growth of your children, many children have dropped out of school because of early pregnancy, poverty, single parent and pair group influence. It is high time we started educating our children about sex education, especially when the Ministry of Education has incorporated sex education in our school curriculum.Let us befriend with our children, don’t treat your child as enemy, talk to them and encourage them so that they will not be afraid to discuss their early life experience with you.

“To you students’ education is the key to success. This is why we are all gathered here today to encourage seeking academic excellence. It is therefore an obligation of each one of you to strive and get the best. Learn to utilize your teachers fully because I know they are ready andwilling to help you get the best.If you want to achieve excellence, you must stay focused’’, he said adding that both staff and parents should continue to monitor their pupils so that they can achieve their sets goals,” he noted. He admonished the pupils to take their academic work with outmost seriousness. “I want to appreciate the Proprietor, Board Members and the Administration, for the excellent performance. Students, let me leave you with a quote from one of our African Legend, Chinua Achebe in his book, No Longer At Ease, he says “We send you to learn book, enjoyment can wait, don’t be like the young antelope who dances it take before the actual dance comes,” he concluded.
