The African Movie Icons and Celebrity Award (AMICA) was established to integrate filmmakers, entertainers and celebrities across Africa, aiming at building a sustainable relationship business amongst Africans and the world , at large.
Speaking via this medium while rendering a brief background about AMICA, Madam IshaSappaSesay said AMICA was founded in the Gambia in 2020, noting that it was recently established in Sierra Leone. AMICA, she said came into existence by SarayDainkeh who is the Vision Bearer and Co-founder alongside Abdulai S.D. Kargbo and others.
IshaSappaSesay added that the first edition of the AMICA awards will be hosted in December, 2021 in Freetown, with the theme: “Africa Integration – Stronger Together Celebrating Talent and Promoting Ecotourism for Nature Conservation and Community Development”.
Mr. Daramy A. Kabba is the Chairman, Sierra Leone Film Industry Labour Gill, and while launching the AMICA awards on behalf of the Sierra Leone film makers,music, and modeling industry said the thrust of the award is to build the integrity of all film producers, actors, actresses, and film makers in the film industry.
He said the Sierra Leone Film Making Industry is growing, noting by calling on all Sierra Leoneans to come onboard to grace the occasions. Mr. Kabba said they want to change the narrative of the film industry in the country and that they are working hard to weed out bad and warned all those who don’t have good intentions for the industry to leave.
He also noted that there should be more capacity building in areas like script writing and directing of movies.
He said Sierra leoneans should demonstrate love and care for Sierra Leonean movies by sharing the aforesaid through social platforms.
In his concluding remarks, Daramy called on all Sierra Leoneans film makers to tell the Sierra Leonean stories and stop imitating the culture of other countries.
Abdul KarimKekura (Alvin Kay) while announcing the various categories said there are 40 categories, 200 Nominees, and 40 Awards, adding that there are categories for Fashion and Performing Art Film Production Creative and Cinema Awards
While giving his Keynote speech, Mr. Alpheus Rogers, Mass Communicator, Tutor and Poet said the movie industry deserves changers, adding that the maiden edition of the AMICA awards is to build a film culture in the minds and heart of Sierra Leoneans, noting by calling on hardworking, dedicated, and determined film makers to come on board and join hands in the development of the film industry.
He said better days are ahead when the film industry will compete in the global film industry
