Africell Donates Plots of Land to Its Long-Serving Employees

Africell Mobile Company has undertaken a significant initiative to invest in the future and well-being of its employees by generously donating plots of land to long-serving staff as a form of recognition for their dedication, loyalty, and hard work.

The official ceremony for the handover of the land occurred on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, in York Village, Africity, located in the Western Rural District of Freetown, the capital city. This commendable gesture not only serves to reward the employees but also aims to cultivate loyalty and long-term commitment within the workforce, which can have a positive impact on employee morale and retention.

During the formal land handover ceremony, Mr. Shadi Gerjawi, the Managing Director of Africell, reminisced about the previous November when eligible staff members were identified for participation in the scheme. He reassured those who did not benefit from the initial land distribution to exercise patience, as all eligible employees would eventually have the opportunity to benefit from the program based on their length of service with the company. Mr. Shadi announced that a total of over twenty hectares of land would be allocated to qualifying staff, with plans to acquire additional land in the future.

Mr. Shadi emphasized that Africell is committed to not only providing the land but also undertaking the responsibility for infrastructure development. This includes the construction of access roads, establishment of recreational facilities such as playing fields, and supermarkets, provision of solar energy for electricity supply, beautification of the area, and more. He reiterated Africell’s enduring commitment to this initiative, stating that it will continue as long as the company operates in Sierra Leone.

Furthermore, Mr. Shadi disclosed that the company would extend additional support to its staff in the form of loans for construction purposes, tailored to the individual’s building plans for their allocated land. He clarified that while this scheme is not mandated by labor laws or staff expectations, it underscores Africell’s dedication to its employees, mirroring its commitment to its subscribers. In the unfortunate event of a qualified staff member passing away after being assigned land, Mr. Shadi assured that the next of kin would inherit the plot.

Mr. Shadi proudly declared that Africell is contributing to the creation of generational wealth that can be passed down to future generations.

The staff members who were awarded plots of land expressed profound gratitude to the company for its extraordinary efforts in positively impacting their lives and those of their families.
