Alusine Jalloh on the Run

Alusine Jalloh, a prominent supporter of the All People’s Congress (APC), is reportedly on the run for his life. In August 2022, protests erupted across various cities in Sierra Leone as young people took to the streets, demanding better living conditions, freedom of expression, adherence to the rule of law, and solutions to the country’s worsening economic crisis. Tragically, the demonstrations led to the deaths of innocent civilians at the hands of the Sierra Leone Police.

As a key figure in the protests, Jalloh was declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police. Supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) allegedly stormed his residence in search of him, vandalizing his property in the process. A well-known youth leader of the APC in the Eastern region, Jalloh was accused of mobilizing party supporters to protest against the SLPP government.

Fearing for his safety, Jalloh fled after his house was destroyed, with both law enforcement and SLPP supporters reportedly pursuing him.

According to Mohamed Pope Kamara, the APC’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, APC supporters have faced increasing threats since the SLPP took power. He stated that hundreds of APC supporters were detained following the August 10, 2022, protests, with some still unaccounted for since their arrests.

Kamara concluded that Alusine Jalloh is just one of many APC supporters forced to flee for their lives after their homes and properties were vandalized by SLPP supporters.
