Sierra Leone Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Mbaimba Lamin Baryoh has interacted with the Sierra Leonean Community in Berlin Germany over the weekend. In his opening statement Ambassador Baryoh said that, “I am delighted that we are getting back to business, I feel like a kid at Charismas”.
The Interim Chairman of the Sierra Leone Union in Berlin, Mr. Saikous Sununu Bah Saccoh stated that the Sierra Leone Community is fully registered in the Federal Republic of Germany, adding that the Union was inactive for the past two years due to the corona virus pandemic together with some mismanagement that led to mistrust within the Sierra Leone Community.
He added that, In order to revive the Union, a meeting was held where members resolved to reactivate the Union. There was a consensus by the Sierra Leone Community for Mr Saccoh to serve as their interim chairman with the following mandate
The Interim Chairman showered praises on His Excellency, Dr. Mbaimba Lamin Baryoh for his open policy in addressing seeming challenges within the Union. Mr Saccoh thanked Ambassador Baryoh and diplomatic staff for participating in first post corona activities of the Union. Sierra Leoneans poured in from all corners of Germany to take part outdoor program.
Booths were erected across the field with variety games across the field and Sierra Leone delicious local food was served.
The footballs gala among Sierra Leonean teams climaxed the occasion.
The New Berliners and Fullah Progressive Union qualified for the finals.
At the jammed parked field, Ambassador Baryoh called on all Sierra Leoneans in Germany to unite under the Green, White and Blue adding that they have a significant role to play in the enhancement of trade, spur entrepreneurship, transfer new skill to support the socio-economic development stride of President Bio in Sierra Leone.
After his brief speech, Ambassador Baryoh took the kick off amidst thunderous applause from the spectators.
The Match between the two finalists was scintillating and entertaining. This type of soccer prowess and dribbling skills displayed by the Sierra Leone wonder kids in Berlin will one day spur the appetite of the Ministry of Sports to scout from Berlin for our Darling Leone Stars.
The match ended in a goal less draw. However, the New Berliners won against the FPU on penalties kicks.
The Trophy was dedicated the late Mr. Robert Cecil Coomber. In her statement, Ms. Celvic Coomber daughter of the late Mr Coomber appreciated the Sierra Leone Union for eulogizing her father. She handed over the trophy to Ambassador Baryoh after her brief but eloquent statement.
Delivering the trophy to the New Berliners, Ambassador Baryoh stated that “we are all winners”. He reiterated his call for unity and support to the Government of Sierra Leone.
The best player of the match was awarded to Daduda Daramy, the highest goal scorer, Ibrahim Barrie while the best Goalkeeper award awarded to Abdul Razak Abdullah.
The final was officiated by Mr. Donald Spaine referee while the Match Commissioners included Dr. Webber, Madam Fatmata Bangura, Dr. Ben Sannoh and Dr. Oladepo , while Madam Mamusu Conteh-Jones served as medic for the game.
There were several other outdoor games for all ages and genders. Hunting Society was at its best and attracted German onlookers.
The Green White and Blue was the colour of the day. The entire programme was interactive and convivial.
