During an interactive session with Sierra Leonean students in Egypt, Ambassador Sadiq Silla on Thursday 21st April 2022, has given a word of inspiration to the general Student’s Union body of the Al- Ahazar University in Egypt.

This session was held as a result of a request made by the President of the Sierra Leone Students’ Union, Mr. Umaru Sesay.

The high-level student delegation was headed by Umaru Sesay (S.U. President), Kemoh Daramy (Auditor), Ibrahim Kamara (Assistant Education Secretary) Abdulai Koya (Assistant Sec. Gen), Kamara, Huzaifah Sesay (Assistant Sports Secretary) and five other members of the student’s union.

In his welcome statement, the Head of Chancery/ Counsellor, Mr. Samuel Alie Kargo thanked the students for always counting on the Embassy as the first point of contact in addressing their concerns. He also shared the experience of the Embassy working with Sierra Leonean Students in Egypt. Mr. Kargbo assured the Sierra Leonean students that Ambassador Sadiq is always willing and ready to support them in their academic pursuits.

Briefing the Ambassador on the status of students in various institutions in the sister country, the President of the Sierra Leonean Students Union body, Mr. Umaru Sesay highlighted the challenging academic experience coupled with the high economic demands, noting that they are facing huge pressure on the limited education budget they operate. In lieu of that, Umaru Sesay presented a special case on behalf of his colleagues to the government of Sierra Leone through Ambassador Sadiq Silla and appealed for urgent support.

Responding to the concerns raised by the students, Ambassador Sidiq Silla commended the students for the display of patriotism and maturity in reaching out to the Embassy. He assured the students that His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio is passionate about supporting every Sierra Leonean to get a quality education.

”Today is my first meeting with students, one of President Bio’s priorities is to provide high quality secondary and Tertiary education in Sierra Leone, and today I am delighted to seat and discuss progress made so far and genuine concerns raised by students,” Ambassador Silla said, adding by encouraging the students to study hard and complete their university education so as to be able to compete in the job market. He assured them of jointly exploring possible areas for assistance. He urged them to continue to rely on the Embassy for their support. He called on them to stay away from problems and focus on their studies. Ambassador Silla further admonished them not to relent but to continue to burn the candle at both ends.
