An investigation conducted in the Western Urban area by this publication has revealed that many Kush retailers and addicts have fled to nearby forest areas and hilltop communities. Pedestrians and residents who frequent these areas have expressed fear for their safety and property amidst this influx.
Reports indicate that the forest path stretching between Fourah Bay College and Leicester Road, commonly referred to as Botany, has now become a hub for Kush retailers and addicts from various areas. Residents of Leicester Road lament that the stream divide, used for fetching water, laundry, and gardening purposes, is now frequented by these individuals.
In other developments, from Orugu Community in Upper Allen Town to the hilltops of Somalia Town, many retailers have sought accommodation in these areas. Residents have reported sightings of unfamiliar faces among the youth population. Information gathered from other residential areas suggests that some retailers have temporarily ceased selling Kush since the onset of the anti-drug protests a few days ago.
Furthermore, findings indicate that many addicts who cannot access their usual doses are experiencing adverse health effects, including increased heart rate, appetite loss, respiratory issues, digestive problems, excessive thirst, and sleep disturbances. Most individuals interviewed believe that the recent direct approach aimed at discouraging both sales and addiction represents a collective effort by civilians to combat a troubling societal issue.
