Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, said he is happy that the Chancellor of America International University West Africa has chosen Sierra Leone as a hub for the establishment of a Medical University in the sub-region.
He made this statement on Wednesday 11th August 2021 while speaking to Dinesh Shukla, the Chancellor of America International University at his Tower Hill office in Freetown.
The Honourable Vice President thanked Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner in Banjul The Gambia, H.E Lucrecia Mariam Shereef for her active role in bringing investors into the educational sector.
Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh said he was passionate to strengthen the health care service delivery making special reference to maternal and child health in the country, adding that the Medical University was a step in the right direction. VP Jalloh said the New Direction had prioritised Human Capital Development hence allocating 22% of its GDP to education, and more importantly, putting additional money to support postgraduate studies and building a more resilient health care service.
He encouraged the Chancellor to engage the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education to map the way forward as soon as possible. “We will provide the necessary support for its establishment,” he assured.
On his part, the Chancellor America International University West Africa, Dinesh Shukla, said the university was founded to provide a well-rounded education and prepare students to excel in any field of specialisation. Dinesh Shukla added that the University has six colleges combined, medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and College of management and information, respectively.
“Our vision is to bring affordable American education to scholars in Africa with a standard of excellence, Integrity, Compassion, leadership and lifelong learning and serving,” he stated.
The Chancellor said that the University’s Board of Directors has approved the establishment of the university in Sierra Leone, serving as the hub for West Africa. “I am prepared to hit the ground running by enrolling the first set of students in the 2022 academic year,” he noted.
In another development, the Chancellor led by the High commissioner Lucrecia Mariam Shereef had fruitful discussions with the Minister of Technical and Higher education, Dr Alpha Wurie, Minister of Health, Dr Austin Demby, and Minister of Lands Housing and country planning, Dr Turad Senesie, respectively.
