Information reaching this medium indicated that the Minister of Basic and Senior Education, Dr. David Sengeh has engaged principals of schools to address the many challenges in the education sector.
This move is to address overcrowding in school and to ensure conducive learning environment.
According to our source at the Ministry of Education, most schools have been ordered to cut down on the number of their candidates to gain admission into the junior secondary schools level, adding that the Minister has already presented the list of successful candidates to principals. Our source went on to say that the government of Sierra Leone and donors have given lots of funds in support of both public and private schools under the Free Quality Education ticket.
Our source has appealed to parents and guardians to desist from paying bribes to schools authorities for their children who have failed to score the government passing mark of 230, adding that it will have a great repercussion to their future and will affect them in the future. Our source further said that both parents and guardians should not hesitate to inform the Ministry or the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in cases where their children have scored the require grade but are deprived of their admission.
