Between SLPP –APC political crisis …. International community Okays mediation

The Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNE) Madam Hawa Sally Samai has said that upon consultations held with President Julius Maada Bio on several occasions, the Commission has strengthened its dialogue with the International Community to involve in the Mediation process aimed at ensuring final peace between the Main Opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party  and the incumbent Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) over dissatisfaction expressed by the former in the elections held on June 24th  2023.

She disclosed that the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS) the Commonwealth Foundation and the African Union (AU) have consented to engage the APC and government of Sierra Leone to solve their differences for peace and unity which emancipated from the 2023 elections.

Madam Hawa Sally Samai said the Commission has exploited all local avenues to bring final peace but there are no signs of compromise from either side adding that to consolidate their relentless  efforts on the achievement of peace , President Bio gave the green light for the intervention of the International Community as a 3rd party.

‘’ The Commission has held several close door meetings for suggestions about mechanisms most appropriate to be adopted to end the discrepancies between the two and they are confident that the bodies selected are the right ones at the right time and symbolic of our regional continental and colonial belonging,’’ Madam Sally Samai added.

The Executive Secretary went on to call on Sierra Leoneans to be confident as the arbitration process will be held transparently to the public expectations.
