Citizens Blast SLRA & Works Ministry

By Mohamed Kamara

Sierra Leoneans have raised concerns over the ineptitude of Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA) and the Ministry of Works to address the many potholes in the country.

It could be recalled that even the former government of Ernest Bai Koroma paid lip service to addressing the issue of potholes in the country, thus leaving many road users to struggle using the roads.

Mr. Samuel Sesay, a public transport driver told this reporter that in one month alone, he was obliged to buy three new tires as a result of potholes in the capital city. He alleged that the main Fourah Bay road is in deplorable condition. He called on the SLRA and the Ministry of Works to mend the too many potholes in the country. He added that an okada rider nearly lost his life in Fourah Bay Road due to the many potholes, which government have reluctant to address.

A couple dressed in white attires heading for a club meeting where forced to return back home to change their clothes which was sprayed with water by a passing bus along Kissy road.

A senior staff of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has condemned the negligence of SLRA and the Ministry of Works to address the Potholes in the country. Even at the entrance of Youyi Building, there are potholes. This is embarrassment to the Government, especially when people from overseas visit their ministry.

It will be recalled that during the eleven years of Ernest Bai Koroma’s rule, his former Minister of Works and Infrastructure Alimamy Petito Koroma and the then Director General of the SLRA, Munda Rogers were sacked because of the scandals of the potholes. Citizens have called on His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio to address the issue.
