The West African Collegiate School in collaboration with the West African Old Boys Association (WAMCOBA) has on Sunday 6th June 2021, celebrated their 110 anniversary at the Samaria Church in Freetown.
The Chairman of the Old Boys Association, Mr. Alex Manley during the thanksgiving ceremony, appreciated the strides so far made by the current President and Vice President of the Old boys Association. He said that the current executive of the Old Boys Association has helped to rebrand the School. He therefore described the ongoing developmental activities of the school as a driving force. He appreciates the efforts made by the Principals of both the Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School to enforce discipline to defaulting pupils.
Reverend Canon Elkanah Thomas, delivering the sermon, he admonished the current pupils of the school to take their academic work seriously, adding that they should follow good examples and not to be carried away by pupils who have faith in ganterism, drinking of alcohol and smoking of cannabis sativa. He urged them not to get involve or participate in anti-social activities. He said that when they focused on their education, the school will be proud of them. He continued to say that they should put more efforts in their education and score good grades to make the school proud.
“You must work towards having the best B.E.C.E and W.A.S.S.C.E grades,” urged Reverend Canon Elkanah Thomas, adding it will help to raise their school flag high. Reverend Thomas recalled that during their days, they record great academic success for the school and they were not part of those causing problems. He called on the present pupils of the school to put on their best behavior, adding that they should bear in mind that they are representing the school and that they must always pride themselves as ambassadors of the school. He also cautioned them to always respect their teachers and parents. He encouraged them to have big dreams, adding that they will become lawyers, teachers, doctors and other careers if they like.
The President of the West African Methodist Collegiate Old Boys Association, Mr. Rodney Kallon as part of measures to enforce discipline in the school, he admonished pupils to feel free to complain to authorities in the school. He informed them that they will always be available to hear their concerns and take appropriate actions. Certificates were given to the best old boys of the School. The ceremony was climaxed with a match pass from the church to the school compound.
