Contractor Remanded for Fraudulent Conversion

By Mamajah Jalloh

Freetown, Sierra Leone — Mohamed Moriba Fabbah, a contractor, was remanded in custody on Thursday, August 22, 2024, after making his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2. Fabbah faces charges of fraudulent conversion, an offense under Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Brook Street in Freetown. Fabbah allegedly converted to his own use and benefit fifty lengths of half-inch iron rods, eighty pieces of 2×2 timber boards, and other assorted construction materials valued at seventeen thousand six hundred and fifty new Leones (NLe 17,650). These items had been entrusted to him by Steven Matthew Alieu for safekeeping.

When the charges were read in court, Fabbah did not enter a plea, as the gravity of the offense required further judicial consideration. The prosecution, led by Sergeant 3379 Bally T, requested a short adjournment due to the absence of the key witness.

Magistrate Bangura denied bail and ordered that Fabbah be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to August 30, 2024.
