David Lamin Bangura’s School Closed

The decision taken by one Philanthropist and Proprietor of the Daverajj International Senior Secondary School operating in Kambia Town, Magbema Chiefdom, Northwest region of Sierra Leone, David Lamin Bangura to join national politics in Sierra Leone has landed him in big trouble.

David Lamin who has decided to join the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party has been endorsed by APC members, supporters and sympathizers in Constituency 060 in Kambia district to represent them in Parliament after the 2023 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections under the APC ticket.

This latest development did not go down well with senior officials of the ruling Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) who saw his candidature as threat to their chances to win that seat.

Report monitored by this medium indicates that the government has on Saturday January 9th2021, closed down the Daverajj International Senior Secondary School because of several factors.

The school which is owned by David Lamin Bangura has been operating in the community for over five years now. The opening of the school is to compliment government effort to reduce the high illiteracy ratein the district.

The closing of the school has prevented over seven hundred students from the seven chiefdoms in the district from accessing quality education.

Independent investigation conducted by this medium revealed that the authorities are not comfortable with David’s decision to join the opposition party. He has been described as generous, kind hearted and development oriented person who means well for his people especially in providing scholarships to vulnerable students, supporting the aged and paying medical bills for sick people among several other facilities provided to the people.

The Section Chief of Kambia Town, Pa Alimamy Kamara referred to David Lamin as somebody who has changed the lives of several young people in the district with the introduction of skills development projects to make them self-sufficient in the future at free of cost in addition to the construction of the School.

“As a way to frustrate his political ambition, the government through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education decided to shut down his school and freezes his personal bank account for allegedly inciting youths to join the protest against the decision of this government to arrest the former President in Makeni last year,” Youth Leader Mohamed Kamara said.

He pointed out that the lives of David Lamin Bangura’s family including his wife and children are under serious threat because of his political ambition.

A senior police officer Chief Superintendent Mustapha Mansaray disclosed that David was initially invited by the police to make statement in connection with the Makeni protest in July last year but did not attend and since then his whereabouts remains unknown.

The remaining members of the Bangura family have expressed serious concern about the continuous intimidation and harassment they are facing from senior government officials.
