During the official signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SWASAL and Africell Mobile Company, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla has commended the leading Telecommunications Company, Africell for their exemplary role in supporting journalists and media fraternities in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Nasralla went on by thanking the management of Africell for their tireless support towards sport journalists and the sporting activities in the country. He added that Africell Mobile Company is a proud sponsor of the development of sport in the country. President Monk encourages SWASAL members to take advantage of the partnership with Africell. He further describes the signing ceremony as a milestone in augmenting the activities of SWASAL.
The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday 22nd September 2021, at the Africell’s American Corner, Bathurst Street in Freetown.
In his opening remarks the President of SWASAL, Sahr Morris Jr. affirms that Africell has been a proud sponsor of the activities of SWASAL. He recalled that Africell through their Cooperate Social Responsibility supported the annual award ceremony of SWASAL to journalists that have contributed exceptionally in promoting the various sporting disciplines in the country. Mr. Morris added that Africell has also been one of the key partners in supporting commentaries of local and international sporting events.
“Today’s event is a renewal of our partnership with Africell and we must hold on to this to deepen our ultimate role in reporting sports in the country,” said Mr. Morris, adding that the partnership will help SWASAL greatly in cementing their relationship with the management of Africell Mobile Company in supporting their activities especially in promoting coverage of sporting activities locally and internationally in addition to the previous agreement reached with the management of Africell.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of Africell, Joe Abass Bangura refers to football as a powerful tool in uniting and bringing people together from different backgrounds, tribes and regions irrespective of their political imbalance. Mr. Bangura highlighted the role of Africell in promoting sports in the country, ranging from 2006 to date. In demonstration of their passion towards the growth of soccer in the country, Mr. Bangura said that in 2006, Africell funded a friendly match between Leone Stars of Sierra Leone and Sili National of Guinea at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown.
The Keynote Speaker, the Deputy Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Abdul Rahman Swarray congratulated SWASAL for winning the heart of Africell to enter into partnership with them. He urges the association’s membership to empower themselves with educational programms. He emphasizes the need to SWASAL to collaborate with parastatals, agencies and the private sector to develop sports in the country.
The signing ceremony between the management of Africell Mobile Company and SWASAL climaxed the event.
