Freetown, Sierra Leone – Bayoh Kargbo, a 42-year-old electrician, was remanded in custody on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, after appearing before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2, facing a charge of larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, Kargbo, employed as an electrician at Marampa Mining Limited in Lunsar, Port Loko District, allegedly stole various sizes of electrical cables on October 26, 2024. The stolen cables are valued at Le 526,146, the property of Marampa Mining Limited.
When the charge was read and explained to Kargbo, he did not enter a plea. Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa requested a short adjournment as her witness was present but had not had sufficient time to confer with him.
Defense counsel, Chernor Kamara Esq., applied for bail on behalf of the accused, noting that Kargbo is a Sierra Leonean resident, has reliable sureties, and would not interfere with prosecution witnesses or jump bail. Kamara based his application on Section 79(2) of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.
Despite the application, Magistrate Bangura refused to grant bail, citing the nature of the offence, and remanded Kargbo to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to December 11, 2024, for further proceedings.
