Citizens are voicing concerns over recent reductions in fuel pump prices, as they fail to see a corresponding decrease in transportation costs. Many individuals and logistics operators have expressed frustration, noting that fares and delivery fees remain unchanged, continuing to strain the public’s finances.
Alpha Bah, a businessman, emphasized that a drop in fuel prices should directly benefit consumers. He called for greater transparency and accountability from transport operators.
Kadiatu Musa, a businesswoman, pointed out that this is the second time this year that pump prices have been reduced, yet these decreases have not translated into lower transportation costs.
Mohamed Massaquoi, a student at Fourah Bay College (FBC-USL), stated that the persistent high transportation costs are burdensome for the public. He recalled that when fuel prices spiked a few months ago, transport fares increased without delay. Now, despite two price reductions, transport operators are reluctant to lower fares, leaving commuters struggling.
Massaquoi further stressed the need for a response from relevant authorities to ensure that fuel price reductions are reflected in transportation services.
Osman Kargbo, a commercial transport driver operating between Lumley and Regent Road, cited rising operational costs, maintenance expenses, and wages as reasons for not adjusting prices in line with fuel decreases.
Other citizens and commercial transport drivers echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the growing frustration over the disconnect between fuel prices and transportation costs.
