Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh today, Friday 4th February 2022, participated in the commissioning of agricultural machines donated to Women Farmers in Port Loko District to boost food production in that district. Similar equipment will be delivered also to Women farmers in other parts of the country that are involved in vegetable production.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abubakarr Karim, the equipment which are mostly power tillers are designed to support small grower farmers specifically women to increase their production and yield which he said is an important component of the agricultural transformation programme of the government.
Speaking at the event, VP Juldeh Jalloh described the event as part of the human capital development agenda of President Julius Maada Bio which essentially hinges on education, health and food production. He stated that evidences have shown a massive improvement in local food production since government rolled out its agriculture transformation program.
According to VP Juldeh Jalloh, “this is the soul of bread and butter” as increased food production means increased access to cheap food. He thanked the Minister and team for their decentralized approach to support food production and called on farmers to take advantage of government good will in that sector.
Later in the day, the Vice President will attend a meeting of stakeholders in Kambia District where he will perform Jumah Prayers and depart for the Port Loko hospital to engage with staff at the One Stop Center.
