Maryland, USA –Kenema Old Students Association (KOSA) America successfully hosted its annual fundraising dinner and dance at the Hi-Qu Event Center in Maryland, aimed at generating funds for the development of educational infrastructure at the Kenema School in Sierra Leone.
The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Alie Kabba, who delivered an impassioned speech on the critical role of education in regional development. Dr. Kabba began by paying tribute to the individuals who donated the land for the school’s construction, noting how the institution has produced graduates who have made significant contributions to the progress of Sierra Leone, Africa, and the world.
He extended his gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for initiating the construction of additional classrooms, a step he believes will further boost educational standards in the region. Dr. Kabba, who was involved with KOSA while serving as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the United Nations, emphasized the personal significance of supporting the Kenema school and making a positive impact on the lives of its students.
He addressed the infrastructural challenges the school faces and underscored the importance of supporting teachers, noting, “Quality education is inseparable from quality teaching.” Dr. Kabba also reiterated the urgency of constructing a multi-purpose building, adding, “Sierra Leone was once the engine house of education in West Africa.”
He concluded by reminding attendees that their contributions stem not from abundance but from their love for education, urging all to support the ongoing project.
The evening’s highlight was a successful fundraising session, with members pledging their support for the multi-purpose building project. The event also featured performances by Evangelist Korba, Deputy Executive Director of the Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and UK-based artist Michael Fayomba, contributing to the celebratory atmosphere of the night.
